September 21: Tour and lunch at the National Museum of the Mighty Eighth Air Force
This marvelous Savannah gem features over 90,000 square feet of exhibits, interactive displays and historical artifacts commemorating the Eighth Air Force which was activated in Savannah in 1942. After our two-hour guided tour, we’ll enjoy a buffet luncheon at Miss Sophie’s Marketplace, located on site. For those living in The Landings, we will be carpooling from the Methodist Church at 9:10 to make our 10:00 tour. We will be dining at noon with an anticipated return to The Landings by 2:00 latest. If you would like to join us, please mail or tube a check to Sue Souls, 206 Yam Gandy Road, by September 12. Checks in the amount of $22 should be made out to Pi Beta Phi Alumni Club of Savannah.
Checks payable to Pi Beta Phi Alumnae Club should be marked MIGHTY EIGHTH. We need a count quickly, so please don't delay.
October 29: Kitchens & Cuisine Tour in Beaufort
Local chefs will be creating regional specialties in private kitchens in lovely homes located on Cat Island and in the waterfront community of Habersham. Five chefs, five homes to tour…a fun and delicious combination! Tickets do sell out for this popular annual event so you are urged to purchase yours as soon as possible. You may call (843) 379-3331 to order tickets or go online to historicbeaufort.org. Click Shop; then Fall Festival of Houses & Gardens; followed by 2017 Kitchens & Cuisine. Select the second time slot which is 12:30-3:30. Tickets are $50.00 and feel free to bring a guest. Husbands enjoy this tour also! Once you have purchased your ticket, please email Allison at email@example.com or call her at (912) 398-8440 to let her know if you are interested in carpooling. Arrangements will be made and an email sent out by mid-October. This is a driving tour, not a walking tour. We will leave the island at 10:30; pick up our tickets in Beaufort at 713 Craven Street; returning about 4:30.
December 7th : The annual Christmas luncheon
Our annual Christmas Luncheon at the Landings will be hosted by Sandy Ramstad and her co-host Becky Lowell at 11:30 on Thursday, Dec 7. It will again be catered by our own JoAnn Morrison. We will have a meeting and a short program. Please save the date and plan to bring children’s books to be distributed to children in need in Savannah. You will receive an invitation in November. Reservations needed by Dec. 1st. This is always a wonderful way to start the holiday season. RSVP to Becky Lowell.
January 31: Gullah Heritage Trail Tour and Lunch
This highly informative tour is led by a Gullah and explores those places of importance to the Gullahs on Hilton Head Island. Depending on our numbers, the cost for the tour will be between $21.00 and $32.00. We are looking at a 10:00 departure with lunch on Hilton Head, followed by the tour and a visit to the Coastal Discovery Museum. Anticipated return would be about 5:00. Please save the date if you are interested in joining us. More information will follow in November.
February 18: Savannah Book Festival Author Presentation and Brunch
This is one of the highlights of the book festival every year when a notable author is invited to give the closing address on Sunday afternoon. That author will be announced sometime this fall and a follow-up email will be sent to everyone at that time with the author information and how to purchase tickets in January when they go on sale. Guests are cordially invited and carpooling will be arranged. Tentative 12:30 departure for brunch followed by the lecture in the Trustees Theater at 3:00.
Date to be announced. Dr. Seuss Birthday is celebrated in Savannah Schools and we use this day for our annual l day for reading in the schools in support of the "Read, Lead, Achieve" national literacy mission. We have focused on Isle of Hope Elementary and Hesse School, and Chatham Academy, but any school would be happy to have us. Patty Koch is our new Literacy Chair will organize this event and will take sign-ups at the Christmas Luncheon. We are hoping to find ways to expand our support of this national initiative.
April 28: Founders Day
It’s Paninis and Pi Phis as we gather to enjoy a lovely brunch and celebrate our founders Italian Style at Pacci, located in the Brice Hotel downtown. We’ll be in their private dining room, Sassafrass, beginning at 11:30. Cost pp inclusive of tax & gratuity is $35.00. Look for your invitation in the Spring.
